When accessing Dental Intelligence, it is important to understand how items and verbiage in di. are defined for consistency. Dental Intelligence might define a metric slightly different than your Practice Management software (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental). Below, you will see some important definitions with which you should become familiar:
Pre-Appointment %
The percentage of Active Patients that currently have a scheduled appointment.
This is found in your Ticker Bar on the Performance Board and Collections Board:
Active Patients
An active patient is a patient for whom some sort of completed production has been added to their ledger in the past 18 months.
This is found in your Ticker Bar on the Performance Board and Collections Board:
Production Per Visit
Is the average dollars of production of any type across all appointments. It is calculated by dividing the total Gross Production obtained from the patient's ledger by the total number of Patient Visits (appointments) obtained from the schedule over the last 6 months.

Trend (13 Week Trend)
The trend is show on each metric graphically and indicate the direction the metric is trending over the past 13 period measured. Clicking on the trend will show the individual data points.
This is found by clicking on the Arrow in the top center of the metric:
Details, Trends, & Information
There are Icons found at the top of most metrics. These will often provide trends, data details, and additional information:
Click into the trends icon to view view year over year and 90 day trends for your practice
Click on the magnifying glass icon to view the details of the source data that included in that metric
The information icon will give you additional information about this metric
Lost Patients (Attrition)
The number of patients that have not had any completed production in the last 18 months or who's status in the practice management system was change to "Inactive".
This is found on the New Patients metric on the Performance Board. To learn more about this metric, click here. This metric is extremely valuable to tracking your patient growth and where you might be losing potential production:
Hygiene Visit / Production
An appointment or completed production that is identified by the ADA procedure codes for hygiene care. (Visits include: D1110, D1120, D4341, D4342 and D4910) (Production includes: D1110, D1120, D1206, D1208, D1310, D1320, D13330, D1351, D1353, D4341, D4342, D4355, D4381, D4910, D4921, D9972 D9973, D9975)

Restorative Visit / Production
An appointment or completed production that is identified by the ADA as doctor production. (Visits include: all restorative and specialty procedure codes with the exception of D4341, D4342 and D4910) (Production includes: radio graphs, exams, restorative and specialty ADA procedure codes with the exception of D4341, D4342 and D4910)
Provider Completed Production
This is taking into consideration any procedure with a dollar value on a patients ledger that is associated with a provider's ID.
This can be found in the Provider Pulse, under the Production tab:
Provider Scheduled Production
This is any procedure on an appointment that is associated with a provider's ID:
Hygiene Re-appointment
Patients that completed a Hygiene Visit and were scheduled for their next hygiene visit that same day. To learn more about the Hygiene Re-appointment metric, click here.

New Patient Hygiene Reappointment %
All patients that completed production for the first time and scheduled for their next hygiene visit that same day. To learn more about the New Patients metric, click here.

Cancellations
An appointment that was broken with more than 24 hours notice
This is found on the Performance Board:

90 Day Collection %
This metric includes 90 Day Gross Collection % which calculates the amount of dollars actually collected in the practice divided by the gross production for that time period. It will also include 90 Day Net Collection % which calculates the amount of dollars actually collected in the practice divided by the net production for that time period.
