Open Dental: Reports

Learn how to run a report in Open Dental that reflects the same data shown in Analytics

The Open Dental production report can be run in a few different ways to derive production, collections, and adjustment numbers.

Practice-Web users: The instructions outlined below for Open Dental can be utilized to run an accurate report in your Practice-Web platform as well. Please follow the steps below to run your report in Practice-Web.

Run a Production Report in Open Dental

Before you get started: We do NOT recommend running reports using “Procedure Date”. If you would like to run an Open Dental report that is accurate and reflects the same numbers you see in Analytics, follow the instructions below.

  1. In the main menu of Open Dental, click on Reports, then click Standard

  2. In the Production and Income section of Reports, click on More Options

  3. In the Date Range, change the time period to match a time period in your Analytics dashboard (ie, a week or month)

  4. Select the checkbox to run the report for All Providers

  5. Select to show insurance writeoffs using the insurance payment date

  6. In the lower right corner, select the checkbox to Include Unearned

  7. Click OK

Next, look at the Dental Intelligence Performance Board for the same time period to see completed (1) Production and (2) Adjustments. The Collections Board will show (3) Collections for that same period. Please note that our Net Production (which Open Dental calls Total Production) does not include the remainder of your Scheduled production, while Open Dental's does.

If your report results don't match: Ensure you're following the recommended report settings. For the most accurate data, run reports after hours once all work has been entered in your Practice Management System (PMS). Because data syncs overnight, any changes made in the PMS during the day may not yet be reflected in your reports, which can cause discrepancies.


Run Provider Production Report in Open Dental

Using the same production and income report, you can get a provider’s production which will help you see the same production number that is in the Provider Pulse.

If you would like to run an accurate provider production report in Open Dental for a Provider, here is the report and the manner in which it should be run.

  1. In the main menu of Open Dental, click on Reports, then click Standard

  2. In the Production and Income section of Reports, click on More Options

  3. In the Date Range, change the time period to match a time period in your Analytics dashboard (ie, a week or month)

  4. Select the Provider for whom you would like to run the report

  5. Select to show insurance writeoffs using the insurance payment date

  6. In the lower right corner, select the checkbox to Include Unearned

  7. Click OK

Next, look at the Dental Intelligence Provider Pulse for the same time period to see completed Production for the provider for whom you ran the report.
