Where does patient communication write back in my practice management software?

Learn about the writeback process for texts and emails sent to patients and their saved location in your practice management software

Updated today

Text and email writeback functionality is available as part of the Engagement Module. The article below outlines the writeback location of communication sent to patients from within the Dental Intelligence portal.

When your team sends texts (SMS) or emails to patients through Dental Intelligence β€” whether individual messages or email campaigns β€” a record of that communication is automatically written back to your practice management software ("PMS"). This means your team always has a complete communication history in one place, without any manual data entry.

Text Message and Email Writeback

When you send a text message or email/email campaign to a patient through Dental Intelligence, a communication log entry is automatically created in your PMS. Here's where to find it depending on your software:

Open Dental

Patient record > Account > Communication Log (double-click to open each entry)

Eaglesoft

Account > Patient > Note History (double-click to open each entry)

Dentrix

Family File > Patient Record > Office Journal (double-click to open each entry)

Dentrix Enterprise

Family File > File > Select Patient > Office Journal (double-click to open each entry

A note for Dentrix Ascend and Denticon users: Texts and emails sent from Dental Intelligence do not write back to Dentrix Ascend or Denticon.

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • As long as your Engagement Bridge is connected, writeback happens automatically β€” no additional steps are needed after sending a message.

  • If you don't see a communication log entry right away, allow a few moments and then sync the patient's record.

  • If a writeback entry is missing, confirm that the patient's Dental Intelligence profile is linked to their PMS record. Unlinked patients will not have writebacks.
