Key Differences Explained

Where Each Tool Lives

Team Tasks is part of the full Dental Intelligence bundle and is accessed from the unified dashboard by navigating to Follow Ups > Team Tasks. It is deeply integrated throughout the Engagement module and TouchPoints™ automation.

Analytics Follow Up Tasks are part of the legacy Analytics-only module and are only accessible from the Analytics-only portal. Practices that have upgraded to the full Dental Intelligence bundle should use Team Tasks instead.

Task Types

Team Tasks supports 9 task types, each with its own configurable automation rules:

  • Appointment Confirmation

  • Hygiene Recall

  • Missed Appointment

  • Outstanding Treatment

  • Past Due Account

  • Post-Op

  • Conversation

  • Form Signature

  • Other

Analytics Follow Up Tasks supports 8 task types and uses a more general follow-up structure without the same breadth of structured task types or per-type automation settings.

  • Appointment Confirmation

  • Hygiene Recare

  • Unschedule Broken Appointment

  • Unscheduled Treatment

  • Past Due Account

  • Past Due Claims

  • Other

  • Post-Op

Automation and TouchPoints™ Integration

Team Tasks integrate directly with TouchPoints™ automation. For most task types, you can configure tasks to be auto-created after a TouchPoint™ campaign ends and the patient still hasn't taken action (e.g., scheduled an appointment or confirmed). This means your team is alerted at exactly the right moment — after automated outreach has already been attempted.

Analytics Follow Up Tasks do not integrate with TouchPoints™. Tasks are created manually or by enabling automatic Follow Ups in the Analytics-only portal settings.

PMS Writeback

Team Tasks write attempt activity back to your practice management software (PMS), including the attempt date, attempt result, and any rescheduled due dates. This keeps your PMS communication logs current without extra manual entry.

  • Open Dental: Patient > Account > Communication Log

  • Dentrix / Dentrix Enterprise: Patient > Office Journal

  • Eaglesoft: Patient > Account > Patient Notes

📌 Important: Team Task notes do not write back to the PMS — only the attempt date, attempt result, and reschedule date are recorded.

Analytics Follow Up Tasks writeback task notes only and must be enabled in Analytics settings.

Reporting

Both tools offer performance reporting, but through different surfaces:

  • Team Tasks: Track performance through Team Member Scorecards in the unified dashboard. Data syncs every few hours.

  • Analytics Follow Up Tasks: Track performance through the Follow Up Results dashboard in the Analytics-only portal.
