A Smarter, More Connected Way to Follow Up with Patients
If you’ve used Analytics Follow Up Tasks, you know how valuable it was to assign, track, and complete patient-related follow-ups. But as practices grew and data workflows evolved, its limitations became more noticeable.
That’s why we created a better, smarter solution: TouchPoints™ and Team Tasks, a unified follow-up system built into the unified Dental Intelligence portal.
Together, these tools automate more of your patient communication, streamline team collaboration, and ensure that every patient gets the right attention — whether that’s an automated message or a personal call from your team.
The New Workflow: Automation, Bulk Actions & Human Touch
Automation
Let TouchPoints™ handle the repetitive work. Automated messages reach patients at key moments — like when it’s time to schedule hygiene visits, complete treatment, or reactivate after a lapse in care.
💡 Think of this as the “always-on” layer of your patient communication.
Bulk Actions
When you need to reach a group of patients all at once, use Patient Finder to filter your list and send Voicemail Drops or personalized messages at scale — all in just a few clicks.
💡 It’s automation, but with more targeted control.
Human Touch
Not everything can be automated — and that’s where Team Tasks come in. They alert your team when a personal touch is needed, helping ensure no patient falls through the cracks.
💡 Automation handles the routine; your team handles the relationships.

Start Using Dental Intelligence Follow Ups
1. Review Verbiage
In the Verbiage section of Settings, you are able to fully customize what TouchPoints™ messages include and what information is being provided to your patients.
Click on the gear icon (Settings) in the upper right hand corner, then click Verbiage
In the TouchPoints™ category, click into each message type to view the content that is included. These will be separated as Text messages, Emails, and App Messages. We recommend you keep these similar to maintain consistency when communicating with patients
To edit message content, click on the pencil icon
2. Enable TouchPoints™
Once you've reviewed all of your Verbiage, it's easy to pick and choose which automated appointment communications you'd like to enable from TouchPoints™, your centralized automations dashboard in Dental Intelligence.
From the left side menu of Dental Intelligence, click on Follow Ups, then click TouchPoints™ to get started
Click on each category tile and review the list of available TouchPoints™. Each TouchPoint™ will show as inactive until it is configured or until you click on the toggle to activate it
You may also click the blue Add TouchPoint™ button to add another automated communication that is not included in Dental Intelligence's default list
To review each TouchPoint's default settings, click on the 3-dot menu and then click Edit
Make any desired changes and then click the blue Save button
Upon clicking save, ensure that the TouchPoint™ toggle is now green and the status will show as Active (if it shows as Inactive, click on the toggle to activate it)
💡 Important note about the Hygiene Recall TouchPoint™
Once you've turned on your Hygiene Recall TouchPoint™ to send automated reminders to patients due for hygiene visits, be sure to configure your Hygiene Recall Team Task settings.
With both features enabled, Dental Intelligence will automatically create a Team Task for any patient who doesn’t schedule after the final recall message is sent — helping you keep every patient on track with less manual effort.
3. Set Task Rules
Task Settings allow you to choose how tasks are created, completed, and deleted. To get started:
Click on Follow Ups in the left side menu, then click Team Tasks
Click on the Settings section
Click on the task type you would like to modify to expand it
Depending on the task type you have selected, you may choose to enable auto-create, auto-complete, and auto-delete settings as well as configure additional rules that determine who the task is assigned to and/or when the action is triggered
Monitor Communication and Track Task Efforts
Use the Communication Log to filter automated messages by TouchPoint™ type so you can ensure messages are being sent and delivered as expected.
Track team member efforts with Team Member Scorecards. Team Members Scorecards are a powerful tool you can use to keep an eye on metrics related to Team Tasks. Use Team Members Scorecards to drilldown into specific datasets, track trends, explore graphic visualizations, and find even more areas for opportunity across one or multiple locations.
