Kiosk Troubleshooting FAQs
What are kiosk device operating requirements?
The Modento Kiosk App is directly compatible with iPads, Android tablets, and Kindle Fire tablets that have a screen size of least 8". However, you can adopt other devices to become Modento Kiosks as long as they are connected to WiFi.
Apple iPad Kiosk
If your device is currently running on IOS software, it must be within 2 versions of the most recent software update.
Android Tablet Kiosk (Samsung, Lenovo, Kindle Fire, etc)
In order to use the Modento Kiosk app, your device needs to be on at least software version 6.0 (M).
Windows PC, Laptop, and Other Devices
Any device that has an internet browser and is connected to WiFi can serve as a Kiosk (Example: Windows PC, MacBook, Microsoft Surface, etc).
My Engagement Dashboard credentials didn't work when registering the kiosk
If for some reason your Engagement credentials do not allow you to add a new device directly from the kiosk itself, you can also add a new kiosk from within Engagement. Follow the steps below!
Access Settings by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner
Click on the Practice Setup tab and then click on Kiosk Devices
Click on the blue Add new device button
Enter the kiosk name that you would like to recognize the device by (ie, Apple iPad #1), and then click Save
Follow the steps listed pair the device
When Engagement recognizes the new device, you'll receive an Incoming Pair Attempt alert window. Click Yes to pair the kiosk
The Modento Kiosk App won't open on my device
If the Modento Kiosk app won't open on your device, please try the following:
Check to ensure that your kiosk device is currently updated to its most recent available software version
Remove and re-install the Modento Kiosk app on your kiosk device
Delete and re-add your Kiosk to your Engagement account. Click here to learn how to manage kiosks in Engagement
How do I set up multiple Kiosks?
You can add as many kiosks as you would like to your practice. Click here to learn how to set up a kiosk.
Tip: Differentiate between devices easily by giving them unique names during setup that help you to identify them. You can rename device's at any time by editing them in Engagement Settings.
How do I change the default language of a kiosk?
In order to change the default language of your kiosk, you must adjust the language from your device system settings. You cannot adjust the language of only the Modento Kiosk App. To learn how to adjust the language of your device, please contact your device's support site or department.
How soon can a patient check-in on a kiosk when they arrive for their appointment?
You can set the earliest timeframe that you would like check-in to be available for patients by updating the Check-In Request TouchPoint. Click here to learn how to change the timeframe in your Check-In Request TouchPoint.
Note: When a patient checks in for their appointment using a kiosk device, the patient will also be checked-in automatically in your Practice Management Software. This setting cannot be disabled but the status that the patients are checked-in under can be adjusted for OpenDental and Dentrix.
My patient needs to attach a picture to their form. Can they do this while using a kiosk?
The Modento Kiosk App cannot use the device's camera to take pictures for forms. If a patient needs to attach a photo to their form, they will need to fill out the form on their personal device.
What is "kiosk mode"?
"Kiosk mode" is different from the Modento Kiosk App. Kiosk mode is an available setting on some devices that locks the home button in order to prevent patients from exiting the Modento Kiosk App and accessing the rest of the device.
My iPad is frozen/stuck in kiosk mode. How do I exit?
If your iPad kiosk becomes frozen, unresponsive, or you would just like to exit kiosk mode, first try long-pressing in top-left corner of the screen for few seconds; it should allow you to exit kiosk mode. If you are prompted for a password, it should be the device pin/password or try 1111.
My device won't enter kiosk mode. Why not?
While we support the Modento Kiosk App on all devices that meet our compatibility requirements, we support kiosk mode primarily on Android and Apple devices.
While we have the ability to download the Modento Kiosk App on Fire devices, Fire devices cannot operate in kiosk mode due to restrictions in the operating system.
